Some 8,000 Ukraine's soldiers in Crimea defected to Russia according to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu

Russian Army HQ in Crimea is in massive process of sending former Ukrainian soldiers who in March declared willing to serve in the Armed Forces of Russia to new duty stations all across Russian Federation -  wrote military analyst Dmitry Timchuk on his Facebook page.

In particular, defectors are being send to continue their serving in the Russian military units in the Caucasus region - mostly in Dagestan.

"According to the Russian Army accepted principle of having service far away from their home, they are send to distant regions of Russia. Some have been sent even in the Far East," - said Timchuk. "This is totally opposite of what they have been told earlier by new Russian Army HQ or to what they have been hoping for".
