Militants retreat to center of Donetsk

Ukrainian government forces say that militants are leaving their positions on the outskirts of Donetsk and retreating to the city center, the press center of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) reported early on Wednesday, July 23.
The night from July 22 to July 23 have been tense in Donetsk. In the city one could hear shots and explosions that came from the suburbs. This is informed by the press service of Donetsk City Council. The City residents also speak about individual skirmishes in several districts of the city. At about 6.00 pm there was an emergency shutdown of 8 transformer substations in Kiyv district. At 08.30 pm power supply was restored. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Donetsk region at about 02.00 am as result of battle a shell fell to the territory of Chemical Plant resulting in eruption of fire. As of 9.00 am it is quiet in Donetsk. Public transport is functioning normally. 

After Severodonetsk (129000 inhabitants) was liberated two days ago, on July 22, 2014 Ukrainian flags have been raised at the administrative buildings of Popasna. These have been informed by commander of ‘Donbas’ battalion Semen Semenchenko on his Facebook page.

Yesterday Ukrainian sldiers liberated Popasna (some 50000 inhabitants), and raised state flag on Popasna administrative building (below)..



‘Popasna is completely released. There are Ukrainian flags above administrative buildings. Terrorists are fleeing away from the neighbouring Pervomaisk. They just throw away their weapons. That’s right. They feel need to reach the border in time’, – Semenchenko has written.
As it has been informed earlier Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko predicts that very soon Ukrainian soldiers will release Lysychansk, Pervomaisk from terrorists. Gerashchenko has written about this on his Facebook page. ‘Severodonetsk -this symbol former peaceful separatism in 2004 – is liberated! Horray!’, – he has written. 


‘Very soon Lysychansk and Pervomaysk will be swept (Editor: from separatists)’ – he writes. He also presupposes that ‘in the following days Stakhanov, Bryanka, Alchevsk will be liberated and terrorists will be tightly encircled in Lugansk

Today, on July 23rd Ukrainian army approached Lysychansk (Lugansk region). There are battles around the town. 
According to data from informants as of 00.18 am the settlements of Pryvillya and Novodruzheske are liberated.
‘Lysychansk is almost empty at the moment, – said the source in the Armed forces. – "Only Chechen sabotage groups are working’.

According to local residents one of 3 bridges across Siverskiy Donetsk located close to the railway station is blown up. The other two bridges are mined.

The fighters of Mozgoviy have left the town and moved to the town of Alchevsk where they have reinforced at the territory of metallurgical plant.
Mozgoviy himself is not to be seen.

Military blogger Dmitry Tymchuk says this morning that after retreating, separatist forces "are trying to regroup and organize a defense with major strongholds in Avdiivka, Donetsk, and Horlivka" and "repeatedly shelled" Ukrainian forces overnight in Avdiivka and Horlivka.

He also says Russian troops continue to amass near the border with Ukraine, and that Ukrainian troops in the border area were twice shelled "from Russia" by BM-21 "Grad" rockets.

THE ATO FORCES HAVE RELEASED KARLIVKA AND UNBLOCKED DONETSK AIRPORT. – MEDIA

This is informed by separatists web site ‘Russkaya vesna (Russian spring)’ according to one of fighters leaders Igor Girkin (Strelkov).

‘By morning the enemy knocked our units out of the settlements of Chervona Zorya and Kozhevni. Our losses – 2 tanks and 2 APC (armoured personnel carriers), 3- wounded. The powers are not equal’, – the separatists leader writes .

According to him Karlivka, Natalovo and Pervomaysk have been released by the ATO forces this night.
‘As result the enemy has unblocked Donetsk airport and went directly to north-western outscirts of Donetsk, but this would anyway happen in a day’, – the separatists Girkin writes.


As it was informed previously this night in Donetsk was hard. In the city one could hear firing and explosions in the suburbs.
